"Heroes
Among Us".
Heroes Among Us... This is what it means to be a member of the Hamilton
Volunteer Rescue Squad.
We are your neighbors. Your
friends. Your family. And we provide life-saving
care when it's needed most.
Since its inception in 1979, the Hamilton Volunteer Rescue Squad has
been an ALL-VOLUNTEER department, one of only four all-volunteer
departments remaining in Loudoun County today.
Our members come from all walks of life, from retirees to
college students, from High School teachers to computer
professionals, young and old, male and female.
After joining the department, new members are put through
training provided by the Loudoun County Department of
Fire-Rescue Services. Members are usually trained to at
least the EMT-B (Emergency Medical Technician - Basic) level and
often obtain the EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operator
Certification), allowing them to drive emergency apparatus.
After obtaining & practicing at the EMT-B level, some members
go on to obtain ALS (Advanced Life Support) skills, including
EMT-E, EMT-I, and EMT-P. ALS Providers are allowed to
practice more invasive, life-saving procedures, including IV &
medication administration, heart (EKG) monitoring, and advanced
airway procedures.
Officers are elected or appointed each year by their fellow
members, and are charged with leading the department's
operations. Operational Line Officers (Lieutenants and Sergeants) are
assigned as the Duty Officer of their "Duty Night", and are
responsible for the nightly staffing assignments.
Administrative Officers handle the day-to-day business of the
department, including budget, finance, and department policies.
You can also help make a difference in the lives of those in
your community, and can become a "Hero Among Us".
