The Hamilton Volunteer Rescue Squad, along with the Hamilton Volunteer Fire Department, officially opened the new Hamilton Safety Center Labor Day weekend, marking the end of a nearly 2-year construction project.

The new Safety Center will house both volunteer companies in one new state-of-the-art, spacious facility located at the intersection of E. Colonial Highway (Route 7) and Hamilton Station Road (Route 704).  Previous to the Safety Center opening, the two companies were housed in separate station houses which both had long since outgrown.

The building itself can house up to 6 pieces of equipment and still have room for gear and other equipment, in addition to:

  • Ample storage space for gear and ancillary equipment
  • New sleeping facilities for men and women
  • Weight room
  • Large kitchen
  • Watchrooms for each company
  • Large meeting room equipped with ceiling-mounted LCD computer projector for meetings or training

In the next few weeks, work on the in-house computer network will be completed, and will feature new broadband internet.  The network and internet access are designed for members who wish to telecommute -- working from the station while being available to respond to calls.

Anyone wishing to tour the facility is welcome to stop by, especially in the evenings or on weekends.

We will be housing an Open House for the community sometime in mid-October.  Keep checking back for details on date & time.

After years of planning, the Hamilton Safety Center is finally becoming a reality ! After months of delays due to weather and permit-related delays, the Hamilton Safety Center finally broke ground in March, 2004. Construction began with site grading and preparation, followed by deliveries of pre-formed steel beams, sheet metal, brick, and concrete.

THE PROJECT:  When completed, the Hamilton Safety Center will house both the Hamilton Volunteer Rescue Squad & the Hamilton Volunteer Fire Department in one building.  Currently, the two companies occupy separate stations -- the Rescue Squad's on N. Laycock Street & the Fire Department's on E. Colonial Highway.  The new building will be a state-of-the-art facility, and provides a much-needed upgrade in facilities & space, as both companies' buildings are old and extra space is nil.

The building will include new, spacious bunkrooms allowing members to sleep at the station which will decrease response times, workout facilities, a training/meeting room with computer LCD projector, and high-speed internet and telecommuting stations, allowing members to work from the station while on-duty.

HARMONY HALL:  In addition to the Safety Center building for the personnel and equipment, we are building a Banquet Hall just to the rear of the Safety Center, known as "Harmony Hall".  Harmony Hall will be available for rent for people needing a place to hold large parties, weddings & receptions, and dinners.  Harmony Hall features a large, commercial-grade kitchen complete with stoves, refrigerators/freezers, and large sinks.  For more information on renting our banquet facilities, click HERE.

THE FINANCING:  The Hamilton Safety Center is a WHOLLY VOLUNTEER-FINANCED facility, with 100% of the costs of the project coming equally from the Rescue Squad & the Fire Department.  Fundraising & savings have allowed the two companies to privately finance this building without taxpayer dollars.
